The DeKalb County Probate Court keeps county marriage records. These include applications for a marriage license, marriage licenses, and marriage certifications. A marriage license is the document that allows a couple to legally marry and the marriage certificate proves the marriage. Marriage records may be searched online through the Marriage Records Search portal hosted by the Probate Court. Certified copies of marriage records are available for a fee of $10, as well as a $2 shipping fee for requests made online and a 2.75% charge for all debit and credit transactions.

Records from marriages that occurred between 1952 and 1996 may also be searched through the Georgia Department of Public Health’s State Office of Vital Records, which also holds the state’s birth and death certificates. The department can confirm divorces, but does not hold these records. In Georgia divorce records are held by the Clerk of the Superior Court in the county where the divorce was filed.

Divorce records are held by the DeKalb Clerk of the Superior Court. Copies of divorce decrees, and all other records kept by the Clerk of the Superior Court, may be made online through the eCertification portal. An account is required. Requests may also be submitted through the postal mail. The Clerk provides an Archive Record Request Form as a PDF online, which may be downloaded, completed, and mailed in with a self-addressed stamped envelope and applicable fees. Decrees cost $5 per copy and may be paid by cashier’s check or money order made out to Clerk of Superior Court.
